H. T. JORDAN PHILADELPHIA SHOW NOV. 30, 1914. HEARST-SELIG PICTURES. 15 min. Very good this week. Excellent assortment of interesting films including some very good submarine pictures which were enjoyed. THE GLEESONS & HOULIHAN. 13 min. Very good dancing act. Man and woman doing various styles of dancing while the man at the piano furnishes the music. Act very well dressed and in the opening position was well received. EL COTA. 11 min. He quite lives up to the title "Master of the Xylophone." Anyone who likes music of this kind cannot help but enthuse over him. Uses very good selection of numbers suitable to all tastes. Was given a cordial reception and finished very much in favor. CLAUD & FANNIE USHER. "The Straight Path." 28 min. Comedy drama sketch with plenty of laughs in the first part and plenty of tears at the finish. Is a cleverly written character playlet which holds strict attention and takes a tight grip on the heart strings. Very well played and there was liberal applause at the finish. BROOKS & BOWEN. 16 min. A pair of colored boys called "Two Dark Spots of Joy." They are just this and were a regular clean-up following a strong dramatic sketch and turning the house that was ready to cry into a roar of laughter and applause. One of the best blackface acts we have seen in a long time. BURR & HOPE. 15 min. Offer a very artistic singing novelty skit, staged and dressed in the classiest style and splendidly presented. Both are clever in handling their material, getting excellent results. They dress in evening clothes, the woman making an especially attractive appearance. CHICK SALE. 24 min. He has considerably changed his series of character studies in his country school entertainment act and it is funnier than ever. There was no cessation of laughs during the entire time he occupied the stage and his act was a bigger hit than ever. It is a sure-fire comedy number for any bill. He finished with a horn solo that was a scream. ETHEL BARRYMORE. 19 min. "Drifted Apart." This one-act playlet was used by Miss Barrymore as a curtain raiser last season. It is a dramatic story, very good little drama with a strongly sentimental finish and is made additionally entertaining through the excellent playing of Miss Barrymore and Charles Dalton. Miss Barrymore was given her usual warm reception in her home city and at the finish of the sketch was forced to acknowledge with several bows. THE COURTNEY SISTERS. 16 min. in One. These girls registered their usual big hit in next to closing position. Sang several songs, most of them new, and secured excellent results with each number. They were very well received and forced to respond to an encore. ARTHUR BARAT. 8 min. F.S. This is a London act and consists of a very showy routine of balancing on chairs, ladders, bottles, etc. Each of his tricks is a thriller in itself, holding the audience in suspense. Barat is a clever showman and a very skilful equilibrist. He held considerable attention at the end of a long show, was frequently applauded and finished strong. Girl is carried as an assistant.
