H. T. JORDAN PHILADELPHIA SHOW MARCH 8, 1915. HEARST-SELIG PICTURES. 10 in. Very good this week with the best series of war pictures we have had. ARNAUT BROS. 12 min. A pair of European tumbling clowns with a very excellent novelty acrobatic number in which some splendid comedy is made good use of. In the opening spot these two boys put over a good sized hit. (A feature in the center of any bill and only opening this show as a special favor to me on account of my bill having been changed around owing to the substitution of Irwin for Evelyn Nesbit.) HEARN & ELEY. 17 min. Man and woman in a singing, talking and musical sketch; the violin-playing of the man helping the act get over in good shape. In the number two position, the act was well liked and finished to a liberal amount of applause. EDWARD MARSHALL. 12 min. With a series of crayon sketches which include those of people in the audience, he met with liberal amount of favor. His act is a little away from the ordinary run of its kind and was well liked. NAN HALPERIN. 20 min. With a bunch of all new songs, this young lady put over a solid hit. She is an artist who makes her songs through injecting a large amount of personality and magnetism into each of her numbers. The audience liked her in every number and after greeting each one with a warm hand, sent her off the stage amidst a solid round of well deserved applause. PEKIN MYSTERIES. 18 min. This is one of vaudeville's greatest novelty features. Four men and a boy comprise the troupe and they gave a wonderful exhibition of magic and contortion tricks which kept the audience amazed and amused. It is beautifully staged and splendidly handled, making an act strong enough to headline almost any bill. LEONARD & RUSSELL. 22 min. With Eddie Leonard working in white face this time, his act went over as big as ever. In fact, he scored one of the biggest hits he has ever made in this house. Sang some new songs, did some soft-shoe dancing and then finished up with a couple of his old numbers as an encore and left the audience applauding and crying for more, being forced to respond after several minutes of continuous applause with a neat, little speech of thanks. MAY IRWIN. 19 min. Being called in one one day's noticed to replace Evelyn Nesbit as the headliner of the bill, Miss Irwin put over one of the biggest hits of the show. She was given a tremendous reception on her entrance and the audience never stopped liking her. She sang three new songs each of which scored, and told several stories that brought outbursts of laughter. Her act was a hit from start to finish. BILLY McDERMOTT. 18 min. Act about the same as he has been using for some time. He is in need of some new material. Went fairly well. WELLING LEVERING TROUPE. 7 min. Rough-house comedy bicycle act with plenty of action. Ride all sorts of freak machines getting some good comedy out of it. In the closing spot of a long show, they were well liked. GENERAL REMARKS. Despite the fact that this bill was deprived of its advertised headliner, it played out as one of the best bills we have had for a long time. May Irwin who replaced Evelyn Nesbit, the latter being taken suddenly ill, did a great deal to put the show over by scoring a tremendous hit. CUT LEONARD & RUSSELL: Expression "My God" and parody on "Where did you get that Girl."
