BOSTON SHOW REPORT WEEK of SEPTEMBER 11th '16 (R. G. Larsen.) RETTER BROTHERS 12 minutes in f.s. Palace Set. Comedy acrobats, featuring some wonderful somersaults and a one-man wrestling match. Excellent opener. JOHN CUTTY 14 minutes in one. Olio Drop. Musical Act. Uses piano, cello, xylophone, cornet and bugle. All right in this spot. J. C. NUGENT and CO in "THE MEAL HOUND" 24 minutes f.s. C.D.F. Short opening in one. Street drop. This is the story of a man-about-town picking up a girl on the street, and inviting her out to dinner, only to discover that she is the wife of his own son, disowned for marrying against father's wishes. Some of the lines are pretty broad, and the entire story, up to the denouement, just escapes being improper. got a lot of laughs, and closed well. MAY NAUDAIN and ANATOL FRIEDLAND 17 minutes in one. Special drapery. Singing comedienne and pianist. All the numbers are original with Mr Friedland, which helped them to register a fair-sized hit. "THE AGE OF REASON" with VIVIAN and GENEVIEVE TOBIN 22 minutes f.s. Special Set. This is an unusual comedy playlet, with a good cast, which got over in good shape. The work of the two child actresses is clever, and got many laughs. NAN HALPERIN 32 minutes in one. O.P. Drapery. Second and last week of her engagement. Miss Halperin freshened up her act for the second week with new gowns, and got a big reception. The hit of the show. SIDNEY JARVIS and VIRGINIA DARE 18 minutes f.s. Special Set. This is a comedy with music - being in reality, "The Taming of the Shrew" modernized and brought up to date. Mr Jarvis puts his songs over in good shape, and Miss Dare makes a beautiful appearance in two changes of costume. Went over very well. AL HERMANN 20 minutes in one. Street scene. Hermann ran Nan Halperin a close second for the applause honors of the show. A comedy hit. FRIDKOWSKY TROUPE Russian Singers and Dancers. 9 minutes f.s. Landscape. Acceptable closer, the jack-knife dancing being the best part of the act.
