Page 18, Fantasy-Times SPECTATORS, NEW N.Y. STF CLUB -------------- FANTASY-TIMES Vol. 2 - No. 7 Published weekly by James V. Taurasi, 101-O2 Northern Blvd, Corona, New York. 5¢ a copy, six for 25¢. Editor: James V. Taurasi; European Ed: Ray Van Houten; Ad. Manager: Sam Moskowitz; Associate Ed: Alvin R Brown; Assistant Ed: Joe Kennedy; Science Ed: Thos. S. Gardner. “A Cosmic Publication” -------------------- Our new format is the work of Herman Von Tokken. –ed ------------------ LEINSTER TO SPEAK AT ESFA (continued from page 17, column 1) Leinster’s The Fourth Dimensional Demonstrator was anthologized in Phil Stong’s Other Worlds in 1942 and his First Contact in The Best Of Science Fiction in 1 9 4 6. After 28 years of writing science-fiction, Murray Leinster, in the most recent poll of fans on their favorite author, was one of the top three in the final balloting. Few authors have remained at the top so long. Max J. Hertzberg, one of the country’s leading educators (look him up in Who’s Who, he has almost a full column), Literary Editor of the The Newark Evening News and Principal of Weequshie H.S., Newark, asked permission of Director Moskowitz to send science students to ESFA who showed an interest in science-fiction. As a result of his attending 1 meeting of ESFA, he was impressed with its literary and scientific educational potentialities and placed select magazines and books of stf in the school library, and will encourage their reading. Mr. Jules Bernstein, on the English staff of the Newark High Schools will attend the March 2, 1947 meeting of ESFA. The Spectators, brand new informal Metropolitan-area fan group, is now hitting on all cylinders. Actually an informal STF-discussion group of about a dozen younger fans (including Christensen, Maddox, Fox, Alpaugh Gaulin, Freeder, Lee Budoff, Kennedy) The Spectators are launching several projects of note. The Fan Spectator, bi-weekly news sheet, has been established under the editorship of Ron Maddox. Work on The Fan Pictorial, a collection of photos of stf celebrities is well underway. The revival of George Fox’s Speculations as official organ for the group is being contemplated. Latest activity is the founding of the long awaited new science – fictional amateur press association, tentatively-dubbed The Spectator Amateur Press Society. In an effort to maintain a new high-standard of activity and informality, membership will be limited to 25, with an activity requirement of 4 pages per half-year. The first mailing of the new group will go out early in April, and several new fanzines of high quality will be distributed exclusively thru this medium. The Official Manager, sole officer, will be elected annually. Ron Maddox is serving in this capacity for the non, and those interested in joining are advised to contact him at 20 King St, NYC. -------------- THE COSMIC REPORTER (Continued from page 17, column 2) dom and Bob Tucker deserves a pat on the back for his editing it and to the Fantasy Foundation for making it possible. Rothman mentions that it is the PSFS members and not he that are proposing that a portion of the Philcon profits go to the PSFS. $1.00 makes you a member of THE PHILCON SOCIETY
