Fantasy Times the world of tomorrow today Vol. 2 - No. 10 Corona, 9 March 1947 Whole No. 41 Moskowitz, Witter & Maddox 1947 Officers of ESFA LEINSTER GIVES INTERESTING TALK Snow, sleet, rain and slush a foot deep failed to prevent the Eastern Science Fiction Association's two feature speakers J. Murray Leinster and Kenneth Sterling from appearing, and 37 stalwart followers of fantasy braved the elements to listen to them, March 2, 1947 at the Slovak Sokol Hall, 358 Morris Ave., Newark, NJ. Murray Leinster, whose real name is Will F. Jenkins, spoke on the subject Science Fiction: Show Window of Tomorrow. Leinster, a cheerful chap, much younger looking than you would expect a man to be with a 30-year writing career behind him, adopted an easy, informal style of speaking to tell the attendance about some half dozen stories of his that had been written as fiction and achieved reality; to suggest that writing science articles as they might appear in the popular science magazines of 1970, might be a good idea for fan journals; to tell of excursions into experimental science that had netted among other things a method for thoroughly soaking oil with water. After his talk he answered questions concerning his writing (continued on page 24, column 1) Stanton to be Master of Ceremonies at 5th World Convention PHILCON TO BE HELD AT PENN-SHERATON HOTEL Milton A Rothman, Director of the Philcon Society, has announced that as Master of Ceremonies for the entertainment evening, L. Jerome Stanton, former band leader and shopman and now Associate Editor of Astounding SCIENCE FICTION, will officiate. "The arrangements for the hotel have now been completed. The convention will be held at the Penn-Sheraton Hotel (formerly the Hotel Philadelphian) at 39 and Chestnut Streets, The banquet and rooms will be slightly more expensive than at previous conventions, but this is because rates have climbed way up during the past year. KELLER SELLS HERE AND- ENGLAND David H. Keller, M,D. has sold a Taine of San Francisco story to Donald A. Wollheim for use in one of the "Ace Publications" detective magazines. Col. Keller has also had placed in England two other stories including the conclusion of the Corwall Series.
