5 P H A N T E U R 5 Duality I have two minds. One is humdrum and practical. It finds The way this line shall go, and that; And so designs For structures tall, or maps of hill and stream, From simple lines Expand, that all who will may read. I have two minds. One is wild, untamed, and free. It finds The way to ruddy Mars or Pluto cold. And so designs Emerge for weird adventuring on distant spheres. Down these World-Lines Obscure, lonely is the life I lead. ---:oo0oo:--- Planet Voices Planet voices are calling Tonight, full loud and clear. For Eons have they called, But vainly, for none might here. Why are the Voices so strong Tonight? The reason is plain; Man has the power of the Atom; No more need they call in vain. ---:oo0oo:--- Gray Day The sky is gray, and the rain. The pines stand black and stark Against the sky. Creatures Of madness, born of the Dark, Mock and grimace obscenely From the treetops. In vain I strive not to see them. Eyes closed, I turn away; by my fear Does not leave me. Their night-mare features Stay with me, sharp and clear, Graven upon my brain. ---:oo0o:--- Clairvoyance I see the trails of rocket jets Among the stars. I see the trails, but I cannot see The cargo. The rocket-trails are the same Whether the cargo be life Or death. ---:oo0o:--- Asteroid Madness Boundless is the desert, The och'rous, silent, desert; Then why does it press in on me? Why do i not feel free? I am trapped here by the horizon-- The strangely near horizon, Like a snake, encircling me. Nevermore shall I feel free. ---:o0o:---
