(16) AMATEUR PRESS DIGTEST ECLIPSE (13598 Cheyenne, Detroit). The june issue of Eclipse is a honey. The cover (our copy) is on green stock, and has a marvellous symbolical drawing by Rudy Sayn. They now use four colors of ink. We suggest they use these colors more sanely; print an entire article in one color, instead of every page being a different color, regardless of the material thereon. Thirty pages this issue and only one wasted: Joe Gilbert drags his column "Bright Stuff by Children" one page too far. Jenkins has a weird back cover, and Calewaert a fine interior. FANTASITE (224 W. 6th, Hastings, Minn.) The late April issue is their first mimeo effort, and they practiced before publishing. They did all right too. In three colors of ink, this is what we mean by one color to an article. With one exception, they used one ink thru-out the entire article, story, or whatever it happened to be. Quite often, too, each article was on a different color paper. Beautiful readability! 30 pages, none wasted. Front cover by Dollens, rear by Jones, frontispiece by Wright. Coupla big Ackerman litho ads pop up at the damdest times! In this fanzine is to be found "among the HAMS and PROS", the best review section in fandom. And the completest. VOICE of the IMAGINATION (Box 6475, Met Station, L.A.) The June issue has a cover pilfered from Paul, reproduced by Adele, and is a subtle but wonderful advertisement for Assorted Service, an agency designed to keep Ackerman and others eating. The letters are pretty good, but not so good (or bad) as the puns on the contents page by grace of Ackerman. On the backcover is a "turbit" -- turkey plus rabbit, by a chap named Hoffman. We hope he loses his pencil to spare us further doodles! THE DAMN THING (1223 Gordon St, Hollywood) The May issue continues to damn things in its usual week-kneed fashion. An interesting cover of a concentration camp; Miske is the guard. We unhesitatingly recommend for reading, "Quick, Where is the Men's Room" -- but don't let the title fool you. LeZ would call the article, had we printed it, "Papa Margulies Rides Again Dept." All about the new medals TWS is giving away to hook the suckers and other young fans. We would enjoy this mag much more if the various authors would attach their names. If we choose to call Yngvi a louse, in whatever language, we don't mind doing it under our own name. So we expect others to not mind likewise. SOUTHERN STAR (3600 Grand, Columbia, SC.) The April issue sneaked in as 40 pages this issue, a decent front cover, but a stinking back one. Pohl is too fat! All hard working editors must be lean and ...well, lean. Try as I might, I can find only one kick: the poor attempts at space-filling humor should be dropped from the Panurge "Panorama" on Munsey magazines. In the editorial, it is stated that the Dixiecon will be held in Washington DC next year. That's odd, we didn't know the Denvention was over already! FAPA MAILING for June should be out by the time you read this. Advance word from Editor Perdue informs (as this is written) that there will be between 25 and 30 publications in the mailings, totalling over 150 pages of matter. Election is also this month. If you are interested in joining the FAPA, to participate in these mailings, get in touch with Secretary Milton Rothman, 1730 "P" St., NW., Washington, D/C. New officers assume office in July, so do it quickly; there were but three vacancies last we heard. Election results here next month.
