March, 1941. SUN SPOTS Page 3. A FEW WORDS OF EXPLANATION & THANKS By The Editors of SSp. Last issue, our Anniversary issue, we worked hard to bring out an issue that our readers would enjoy, one that would be something to look back on with some small amount of pride. We thought little of the large loss we were sustaining, and even overlooked the small number of ads that came in. We spend 4 1/2 (cents) on mailing alone, and an additional 2 (cents) for each envelope. That means we lost 1 (cent) on every copy we mailed out. Well, we thing it was worth it, and what pleases us more is the fact that our fellow fans, and readers think so to. We requested letters, and for the first time in our history they really came in in "truckloads". For this we thank you. Along with many came articles and stories in response to de la Ree's editorial of last month. For this we also thank you. And for the fine response that our large Anni-issue received, we also thank you. Keep those articles, stories, & letters coming. Now to explain the lack of "material" this month. We decided, that since we did receive so many letters, and all but one or two were do fine, that it would be a good idea to take one issue off, and just have all the letters possible. For this reason, we have set the last parts of all the serials started last month aside till next month. It would be the same if we were bi-monthly. Also, many readers have expressed there enjoyment of "Sun Swuaks", so this time should really satisfy them. Plotkin's story, "Bucaneers From The Void" will also be completed next issue, as will "Weapon Needed", by Johnson and Davis, "Davy Rockette & Daniel Goone," by Gerrod Delegatez, and "Our Martian Observer Says", by Joe Lewandowski, Jr. The different things promisdd in the last issue, will also appear then, if space can be found. The covers this month, are in our estemation the best yet printed in SUN SPOTS. The front cover is by de la Ree, illustrating "The Bucaneers From The Void", and the back cover is "Death on Jupiter", by Roderick Gaetz, illustrating the story of the same name. We hope that they please you all. A slight correction please: In Harry Warner's letter on a page following this, further on in the issue, you will see a line such as this: "1/3 05 15/5." Please note that this should be 1/3 or 1/5. Thank you. Do you like the colored paper used this month? It costs us 80 (cents) for 500 sheets, while the white costs 65 (cents). Please give us your opinion on whether we should use colored paper all the time, and is so what colors. Some of you might be interested in knowing that Art Widner is taking a poll to find the 10 most popular fan mags in the country. Send him your 10 favorites. The address: Box 122, Bryantville, Mass. If you think we are worthy of a place on this, we would appreciate it if some of our readers voted for us. Thank you. (Boy what a lot of thanks we're handing out today!) THE END
