Taurasi editor of Fantasy-Times ---------------- Mr. Pines of Standard Magazines Inc. should be congradulated for his fine two new magazines, Triple Detective and Triple Western. Two magazines that reprint three recent books of their respective fields in every issue. The magazines are published quarterly, contain 196 pages, with good covers and inside illustrations. Very Nice. What has this to do with fantasy you may ask? It has just this to do with it: Mr. Pines should not stop here with those two magazines. He should add another to his “Triple” family; A new companion magazine to his Thrilling Wonder Stories and Startling Stories; TRIPLE FANTASY! Same format, same number of pages same price (25 cents) and containing reprints (abridged as in the two “Triple” mentioned above) of recent and not so recent fantasy books. How about it Mr. Pines? ____________________________ THE COSMIC REPORTER (continued form page 31, column 1) ---------------- or and worth the 10 cents. A delightful fantasy, Henry’s Magic Powder by Walter Brooks will be found in the April, current issue of Argosy. It’s illustrated by Chiriacks. Science Illustrated, that now looks like the old time Popular Science, contains an article, He Put The A-Bomb Together, about Robert Bacher, only scientist on The Atomic Energy Commission. Also in this issue, a review of John W. Campbell Jr’s new book, The Atomic Story. The review says in part, “……Adding the impact of truth to the fiction writer’s ability to spin a yarn, John Campbell makes the story of the atom a horror tale that tops most of the stories in his own magazine………” One of the most interesting fanzine to appear in years is The Vortex, edited by Gordon M. Kull and George R. Cowie. A well printed 80 pages, well illustrated magazine contains fiction, articles and fan pictures in what may become American Fantasy’s leading fanzine. Well worth supporting. 20 cents a copy from Fansci-Pubafi, 70 Mirabel Ave, San Francisco 10, California. Try a copy. Jules Verne’s Mysterious Island will appear in pictures in the next, number 34 issue of Classic Comics. Classic Comics will change their name to Classics Illustrated with their No. 35 issue. They have published numerous fantasies in the past and promise more in the future. These stories are reprinted each week in the Saturday New York Post in cartoon serial form. Read about Chester Gump’s adventure with “Doctor Thor”, the mad genius who mastered the secret of the Cosmic Rays, in the No. 2 issue of The Gumps. This comic-magazine reprints from the Sunday Gump’s comics. Issue No. 3 out in the near future will reprint Chester Gump’s adventure in the Valley of the Dinosaurs, also stf.
