FANORAMA Issue Number One For FAPA Spring, 1946 This, dear former friends, is the first issue of the first volume of a brand new individzine put out for circulation in the Fantasy Amateur Press Association by Andy Anderson, who locates himself and Omsip, his twelve-year old Underwood portable, at 1011 West 34th Street, Los Angeles 7, California. The mimeographing is done on the Tripletripletoilanddripple duplicator which belongs to the Los Angeles Science-Fantasy Society. Doodleywockie which adorn these pages are cut whenever Freeway T. Laney lets me use my beloved mimeoscope, Deirdre. This issue is affectionately dedicated to Fewmets, the blackest little bitch in these thar hills. THE SCENE FROM THE EDITORIAL TOWER..... It took me a long enough time to get around to it, but at last I've gotten my long-delayed fapazine out. This first issue is strictly my own, excluding the cover drawing, which is the work of Canuck Nils Frome, who also did the cover for the wildly hodgepodge Fantasy Jackpot. Mailing comments take up the majority of this space in this issue; entertaining as mailing comments may be, this isn't exactly the sort of situation that makes for an "A" quality magazine. Maybe by next time I'll be able to whip up something in the way of an article or two, or, better yet, talk some other people into doing some. Mention of Fantasy Jackpot in the above paragraph brings to mind a point which was brought up by someone during the preparation of this magazine. I want to assure everyone that I am not the sort of person who changes titles every issue just so he can accumulate an imposing list of them. FJ was a sudden attempt by 3 localites to fulfill activity requirements. We had been deadwood 'til then: Mel's interest had been lagging, and Mike Fern and I had been moving too much and/or been too indolent to do anything. Fantasy Jackpot was, I think, a very apropo sort of title to have affixed to what was turned out. It certainly would not have been for this. A jackpot woiuld be very miserable, indeed, if the take was as meager as this magazine. In fact, if I wanted to continue along the same groove, the best thing to have called this magazine would have been Two Cherries and a Grape Cluster. As far as anyone around here know, Fanorama is a fan-mag title which has been unused up until this time. Of course, one can never tell --- it may be a column name somewhere. Nevertheless, that is what this thing is going to be known as. -- Andrew Anderson, Creature 12c Take your face out of the printing press, mother, you're not the type.
