Following the allegorical travels of the ancient wanderer through the terrors of the under-earth, the science hero in outer-earth, or space, meets the same trials and temptations. His reaction is the same, and the normal is the same. The human being is most definitely the object under consideration, and he is returning to his position as the center of God's works, or science's (it makes little difference which, for science in this case is the science of mythological imagination). This scientifically explained, but perfectly imaginary world is by both direct and abstract comparison the same world in which the mythologies of the past took place, in which Madam Blavatsky found her pro-adamic races, Wells his future wars, Heard his Atlantis, and Huxley his Brave New World.
