THE BLACKER ARTS ---by Elmer Perdue I've been kind of disappointed at the small size of the University's diabolonian collection. Only one copy of the Necronomicon, just two copies of Prinn's Mysteries of the Worm, and their single copy of the Book of Eibon is so faded I was hardly able to scan the mystic runes... Seriously, tho, we have here quite a few formulas, spells, incantations, and recipes for typical witches' brews. And they're genuine--there's no question about that. So, I'm passing on to you a Latin incantation, whose virtue is that no special apparatus, no arthame, nor enchanted circles are required. It's guaranteed to make you invisible. It's taken verbatim from a manuscript in the Bibliotheque de l'Arsenal, entitled "Le Secret des Secrets". Translation appended is by J. Courtenay Locke. I'm sorry that I can't recommend it, because it hasn't worked for me; but then I've never studied Latin, and naturally the charm will not work if it is mispronounced. Amen. Translation (Paragraph 2): O thou, Pontation, master of invisibility, with thy masters (here follow the names of the masters), I conjure thee, Pontation, and these sames masters of invisibility, by Him Who makes the universe tremble, by Heaven and Earth, Cherubim and Seraphim, and by Him Who made the Virgin conceive and Who is God and Man, that I may accomplish this experiment in perfectability, in such sort that at any hour I desire I may be invisible;again I conjure thee and thy ministers also, by Stabuches and Mechaerom, Esey, Enitgiga, Bellis, and Semonei, that thou come straightway with thy said ministers and that thou perform this work as you all know how, and that this experiment may make me invisible, in such wise that no one may see me. Amen. ---Witchcraft Magic & Alchemy, Grillot de Givry, translated by J. Courtenay Locke. Houghton Mifflin Co, '31. Fapaper ++ 5
