JEDDARA ( THE GREATER NEW YORK CHAPTER OF S.F.L.) PAGE (3) --------------------------------------------------- to membership by a unanimous vote. It was decided that James V. Taurasi and Richard Wilson, Jr., respectively Director and Secretary of the Queens Chapter, were given complete charge of the clubs [sic] publication, Jeddara. By a majority vote the name of the organization was changed to THE GREATER NEW YORK CHAPTER OF THE SCIENCE FICTION LEAGUE. James v. Taurasi was appointed a committee of one to obtain a new Charter for the club. (A Charter has been obtained as this magazine goes to press-Editor) After the meeting a group of the members visited the World's Fair Preview at the fairgrounds, which are within walking distance from the Chapter headquarters. -o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o- ------------------------------------------------------- THE POSSIBILITY AND DEVELOPMENT OF INTERPLANETARY TRAVEL (Continued from page one) --------------------------------------------------- has the required high velocity it would continue to go out into space and leave the earth. If you give large impules to a body, like a rocket or a ship, you can have them come at longer periods of time; if smaller impules, then they must come more often. Every time a bird flies, you jump off the floor, or an airplane leaves the ground, you are really defying the law of gravity. The big problem has been to give the impules to the body at regular intervals over a long enough period of time. That is why a source of energy is required that is greater than our chemical energies--Which are too dangerous to handle effectively. You may find a good account of modern rocketry in Cleator's "Rockets Thru Space," published by Simon and Schuester. Also there are other books describing it; and Astounding Science-Fiction has often discussed the reaction velocities and rockets in Science Discussions, etc. -o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o R EADERS OF THIS MAGAZINE, ATTENTION!!
