NEBRASKA SCIENCE TEACHERS' ASSOCIATION President-- Allen M. Baker Norfolk Jr. College Norfolk Nebraska Vice-President-- Kenneth L. Howland 1224 North McDonald St. Hastings, Nebraska --AN AFFILIATE OF-- State Education Association Nebraska Academy of Science National Science Teachers Association Secretary-- Dr. Harold E. Wise University of Nebraska Lincoln, Nebraska Treasurer-- Roy C. Busch Omaha Central High Omaha 2, Nebraska Norfolk, Nebraska October 27, 1947 Mrs. James Schramm, Chairman Atomic Energy Week Program Burlington, Iowa Dear Mrs. Schramm: It was with a great deal of interest and deep seated appreciation that I read the account of your fine undertaking, "Atomic Energy Week" in the Des Moines Sunday Register of October 26, 1947. Having been elected to head up the Nebraska Science Teachers' Association, an organization constituted of all teachers of science in the public and parochial schools of Nebraska as well as any interested parties or groups outside of the schools I am vitally interested in learning more fully of your program. It would be greatly appreciated if you would inform me as to the reason or reasons why the program was undertaken and just how it was developed and put into operation. Full particulars as to its operation and function would be very helpful in the possible utilization of a similar program here in Norfolk and in Nebraska through our organization. It is hoped that this request will not be too staggering in its scope and that you, or your committee will be able to supply me with any and all of the necessary information. You and the League of Women Voters are to be highly complimented for such a forward step in informing the public relative to the world of today and the necessary thinking and steps which must be taken in order to make our's a lasting peace. A little added interest is held by myself in the fact that I made Burlington my home for a period of two and one-half years while in the Quality Control Division of the U.S. Army Ordance Department, stationed at the Iowa Ordnance Plant. I am gratified to see Burlington taking such a forward step and in being a leader in civic enterprises. Hoping that your program will be a complete success and that you will see fit to forward to me the necessary information, I remain. Yours very sincerely, [actual signature] Allen M. Baker "To strengthen the influence of science teachers and teaching scientists through united efforts."
