Fire on Water A part of Incident Light, Center for the New Performing Arts City Park of Iowa City October 1, 1971 "Before reality was overlaid with metaphors by way of ornament; now the tendency is to eliminate the extrapoetical or real, prop and to 'realize' the metaphor to make it the res poetica." [Jose Ortega Y Gasset, The Dehumanization of Art, 1968] I construct two rafts and anchor one, loaded with a pyramid of wood, in the middle of the pond. I use the second on the evening of the performance to paddle out and ignite the conflagration.
