The governor is honored at a luncheon and military awards are presented. Mother's Day Weekend Each year, the first weekend in May is devoted to SUI mothers. AWS is in charge of the Mother's Day activities, which include a luncheon at which the SUI Mother of the Year is presented. Commencement Although Commencement only marks the end of another school year for many students, for seniors it means the end of their undergraduate days at Iowa.
