STUDENT SERVICES <<7 Liberal Arts Advisory Office Each Liberal Arts and pre-professional student enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts is assigned a faculty adviser by the Liberal Arts Advisory Office, 109 Schaeffer Hall, to assist the student with registration and educational planning. The office also administers the academic rules and policies of the College, including probation, restoration to good standing, and dismissal from the College for academic reasons. Students having questions or problems in the advisory, academic, or other area of the College should confer with the office staff concerning these matters. The Graduate College Information on admissions, awards, appointments, and housing is contained in a brochure available at the Graduate College Office, Room 4, Old Capitol. General requirements which must be met by candidates for graduate degrees are available at the Registrar's Office or the Graduate College Office. Additional requirements of individual departments are found in the University Catalogue under the separate departmental listings. All questions concerning the meeting of degree requirements, including the preparation of theses and dissertations, should be brought to the Graduate Examiner, Room 3, Old Capitol. The Office of Admissions, 1 University Hall, is prepared to answer questions concerning graduate admissions and transfer credit. Problems related to certification programs may be handled at the College of Education, or the other professional schools, or in the office of Admissions and Registrar. Graduate students share in all student services such as counseling, health, and financial aids. Special assistance to graduate students interested in fellowships or support of research is available from the Graduate College Funds Resource Specialist, Room 8, Old Capitol, where the Graduate College maintains a library of information on current sources of assistance and awards. Students with questions on research assistantships, NDEA, NSF, NASA, NIH, or matters related to the administration of these awards should inquire at the Graduate College Office. The Graduate College does not provide any organization, either academic or social, for graduate students. Numerous departments, however, have graduate student clubs for professional and academic purposes. Social activity is generated in connection with these and out of spontaneous interest of graduate students. Opportunities for STudy Abroad - The Graduate Office, the Dean of Academic Affairs, and the various language department offices have information available for students interested in studying abroad. Also, Mr. W. W. Maner in the Office of Student Affairs provides applications for Fulbright Scholarships, and students interested should contact him for information. Coordinator of Religious Activities Each new student is provided with a booklet prepared by the School of Religion, "Religious Opportunities at The University of Iowa."
