The Danforth Chapel is open to any student for prayer and meditation and, by special arrangements and reservations made at the Iowa Memorial Union Scheduling Office, may be used by students for such activities as group worship, initiation ceremonies, and weddings. Speech and Hearing Clinic Students who have a speech or hearing disability can seek assistance without charge in the clinic located in E13 East Hall. This service includes detailed examination, consultation, individual conferences, and drill and practice sessions. College Reading Laboratory Any student having difficulties with reading speed and comprehension, or study skills, may ask the College Reading Laboratory, located in the Old Armory Temporary, for special help in the regularly scheduled volunteer classes. These classes require little or no outside assgnments, and strongly benefit the students who enroll and work in them. University Libraries There are nearly a score of libraries located on the campus and the student will become acquainted with many of them as he visits the various departments and buildings. The General Library is the major library of the University and it is open from 7:30 a.m.to 2 a.m. Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Saturday, and from 1:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Sunday. Schedules in the other libraries vary. In the General Library, the books and periodicals are arranged on open shelves. The card catalogue lists all books owned by the University, with the exception of those housed in the Law Library. There are many private collections housed in the General Library. Students present their Identification Card and current Certificate of Registration Card to borrow books from any University library. The General Library provides many quiet study areas and there are a number of carrels in the study areas throughout the entire building. Many standard reference volumes and a number of books used in underclass courses are avaialble in special Library Substations located in both the men's and women's dormitory complexes. The following is a list of departmental libraries located throughout the campus for students in these particular areas of study: Art Botany-Chemistry Business Administration Dentistry Education Engineering Geology Law Mathematics Medicine Military Service Music Pharmacy Physics Zoology Iow Memorial Union The Iowa Memorial Union is the campus community center and the focus for most of the informal educational activities of the campus.
