Student Life: Organizations and Activities Out-of-class experiences are an integral part of the student's learning and the student who takes advantage of the cultural, social and recreational opportunities offered will find added enrichment and interest in his college experience. Activities enable him to meet new people, broaden his interests, and develop his talents. Information about activities is available from the Associate Dean of Students located in the Iowa Memorial Union, from other staff members in the Office of Student Affairs, located in 111 University Hall, and from the activities chairmen in housing units. Special attention is called to the Activities Carnival held in the Union during the September orientation period. This brings together a majority of the campus organizations and provides an opportunity for students to learn about their programs and membership opportunities. The Daily Iowan is a constant source of information throughout the school year, and students should develop the habit of reading the paper regularly Office of Student Activities - The Office of Student Affairs provides assistance to any student organization desiring help in programs or projects through the Associate Dean of Students, who is located in the Iowa Memorial Union. He advises the Student Senate and the Student Activities Board and coordinates their efforts to provide a strong activities program and an effective student government system which is responsive to the needs of the student body,. Committee of Student Life - A Committee of students and faculty appointed by the President of the University is the central clearing house for recommending policies applicable to student groups and their activities. This Committee hears student proposals for policy changes and presents annually in the Code of Student Life a compilation of regulations which govern student groups and student activities. A summary of these is given in the preceding section. Iowa Student Association All regularly enrolled students at The University of Iowa are members of the Iowa Student Association. The legislative body of the ISA is the Student Senate. Other agencies of the Association include the Student Activities Board, an executive department headed by the Student Body President and an all-University judicial system. Their offices are located in the Student Activities Center of the Iowa Memorial Union. Student Senate - The Student Senate is the students' voice, and any student or student group may consult with the Senate or its officers on any problem of student interest. Representation is based on living unit districts and every student has the right and obligation to vote in the elections, usually held in March. The Student Senate expresses the concerns of the student body, participates in the governance of the University, and regulates all-University 14>>
