Senator Tower Heads Series

IOWA CITY - A U.S. senator will head the lineup for the 1971-72 University Lecture Series at The University of Iowa. Other speakers will include a Federal Communications Commissioner, a "social futurist," and a drama critic for the Village Voice.

Republican John Tower of Texas will open the series Oct. 19. The title of his speech will be "Notes from a Senator's Desk." Alvin Toffler, the author of the current best-seller "Future Shock," will discuss his book on Jan. 27.

Iowa City native Nicholas Jonson, now a member of the Federal Communications Commission, will speak on Feb. 22. Author and critic, John Lahr, will talk April 26, in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the opening of the University Theatre on the U of I campus. Lahr is the son of actor Bert Lahr.

The lecturers will speak at 8 p.m. in the Main Lounge or the Ballroom of Iowa Memorial Union. All lectures will be free and open to the University Community. Any tickets remaining the mornings o the lectures will be available to the public.

Additional lectures will be added to the program later in the school year.
