May 13 50 Negroes Seek Rights The Hawk-Eye Gazette: No race problem here? "Thinking Out Loud", before printing that statement, did you make a survey of your own concerning your statement that there is no discrimination among Negroes in Burlington? Have you made a check of bowling alleys, theaters, eating establishments, or white collar jobs several Negroes in Burlington are capable of holding, but can't get, because they are Negroes? You say "Burlington Negroes are not clamoring for more recognition by whites". We may not be "clamoring for recognition by whites" but we are seeking our rights to democracy as American citizens. Whereas it is true that if it were not for our white friends who have given us financial aid in our church matters alone, we would not enjoy many privileges in our churches, yet it is true that our white friends who are working in the survey are endeavoring to help us enjoy all the privileges due anyone that a democratic America offers, and it is hardly probable that the right minded public would misconstrue their purpose. OPAL CLARK, 700 S. 13th.
