November 1, 1951 NATIONAL TEACHING MISSION NOV. 8-15 The Des Moines COunty Ministerial Association is sponsoring a National Teaching Mission in Burlington, and have placed it under the able direction of the Rev. Ernest Pross. Trained leaders are sent into the area by the National Council of Churches to assist in the work. A denominational leader is selected; ours is the Rev. Mr. Milo Fillipi of Washington, Iowa. The week-long mission takes a religious census of the entire community. It studies the participating churches in relation to the task the church is doing to integrate new members into the church. It assesses the type and character of work being done in the various organizations. There will be a general meeting for the delegates from all organizations on Friday, Nov. 9 from 7:30 to 9:30; Tuesday, Nov, 13 from 7:30 to 9:30; and Thursday. November 15 from 7:30 to 9:30. The Friday meeting is for self-study, the Tuesday meeting for official report and program development. Every organization will please send two delegates to each of these meetings. The following are considered organizations: Beginners' Department, Nursery Department, Primary Department, Junior Department, Intermediate Department, Bible Class, Bible Study Class, Women's Guild, Men's Club, Couple's Club, Youth Fellowship, Wokagege Mission Circle. All presidents or supervisors will please appoint their delegates soon. The members of the Consistory will also be expected to attend these meetings. All members of the committees headed by the consistory members will also please attend. We are expected to supply eight census takers for the city-wide census. These people will have been notified by letter. Each will have about one square block. The captains will meet on Saturday to receive instructions from 7:30 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday morning the commissioning of the census takers will take place during the worship service. Sunday noon the census takers will meet for a lunch of sandwiches and coffee int he church. It is important that all census takers and captains attend this noon luncheon, in order to get necessary instructions. The census takers will then go out and take the census between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. November 11. -2-
