April 12, 1967 Student Activities Bulletin Page 4 CENTRAL PARTY COMMITTEE ANNOUNCES SPRING CONCERTS April 27-Trini Lopez (in fieldhouse) May 6-Herb Alpert and his Tijuana Brass (in fieldhouse) Possibilities- Supremes; Mamas and Papas NEW STUDENT BODY CONSTITUTION AWAITS RATIFICATION In March the outgoing Student Senate completed its work on the new student body constitution. As required by the constitution, the Senate approved the document by a two-thirds majority vote at two consecutive meetings. The plan establishes the Iowa Student Association as a framework for a comprehensive self-government system here at The University of Iowa. One of the primary features of the new consitituion is the creation of a Student Activities Board which will serve as a coordinating body for all student organizations and activities at the University. The Board is charged with the responsibility "to actively promote an integrated program of extracurricular activities which enhance the intellectual, cultural and social growth of each member of the student body." As required by the constitution, this new plan for student government must be approved by President Howard R. Bowen to become effective. Mr. Thomas D. Hanson, outgoing Student Body President, has transmitted the constitution to President Bowen and it is anticipated that he will give it early consideration. If approved, Mr. John T. Pelton, new Student Body President, has pledged to take immediate steps to implement all the provisions of the new document in order that students will enjoy the benefits of representation under the Iowa Student Association in the forthcoming year. STUDENT SENATE TO REVIEW BUDGET REQUESTS SOON Student organizations which plan to request appropriations from the Student Activity Fee should now be crystallizing their needs for the coming year. Within the next week or two Student Senate will announce detailed procedures for submitting budget requests. Committee hearings to study and review these requests will be conducted during the latter part of April. Final action on the student budget is scheduled by mid-May in order that student organizations will know what funds are available to them prior to the close of the school in June. Watch the Daily Iowan for further information. Questions concerning appropriations procedures may be directed to Mr. Larry Goettsch, Chairman of the Budgeting and Auditing Committee of the Student Senate. A FINAL REMINDER Presidents of student organizations, governing bodies and programming agencies should fill out the attached questionnaire and return them to the Office of Student Activities AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
