Student Activities Bulletin University of Iowa Office of Student Affairs Vol I, No. 2 May 8, 1967 SPRING FESTIVAL SLATED FOR MAY 11, 12 and 13 Yes, Spring Festival at The University of Iowa is back, and it promises to be even bigger and better than previously. This year's three day "rites of spring," with the theme, "A Funny Thing Happened Frolicking to the Festival," will be celebrated Thursday, May 11 through Saturday, May 13. Its highlights will include a folk concert, queen contest, carnival, football game, and both a variety show and a water show. A torchlight parade at 8 p.m. Thursday, followed by a dance will "kick things off" for the Festival. A well-known band from Omaha, "The Rumbles," who have recently returned from a west-coast tour, will be the featured attraction at the dance. Everyone will be "romping on the riverbank" the next day as the Water Show gets underway at 2:30 p.m. The program will consist of a fashion show of swimsuits and sportswear, water-skiing, canoe-racing, sky diving and a gymnastics exhibition. That evening at 8 p.m. in the Union Main Lounge, the curtain will go up on Kaleido, the all-campus variety show, directed by Mrs. John Schupert, director of the Iowa City Community Theater. At intermission, the Spring Festival queen, will be chosen from a field of five finalists by an all-male student vote. Saturday afternoon promises a lot of "action," as the intra-varsity football game on the practice field marks the end of spring drills. On Saturday night at 7 p.m. in the fieldhouse, a folk-rock group, the "We Five," who rocketed to fame with the best-selling record, "You Were on My Mind," will appear in concert. Immediately afterward, Carni, a carnival of booths and concessions sponsored by various housing units and campus organizations will cap the festivities. DON'T FORGET THE LIVELY SCHEDULE OF EVENTS Thursday, May 11 SPRING FESTIVAL opens with a torchlight parade and a dance with "The Rumbles Friday, May 12 Water Show at 2:30 p.m. on the Iowa River Kaleido, all-campus variety show at 8 p.m. in the Union Main Lounge (Continued on page 2)
