September 22, 1967 STUDENT ACTIVITIES BULLETIN Page 5 APPLICATIONS NOW AVAILABLE FOR HUMAN RELATIONS LAB A Human Relations Laboratory will be held from Saturday through Tuesday, October 14-17, at the 4-H Camping Center in Madrid, Iowa. To be sponsored by the Student Leadership Program, this laboratory will be similar to the one conducted last December at Boone, Iowa. These laboratories employ the sensitivity training approach to individual learning as developed during the past twenty years by the National Training Laboratories. The Human Relations Laboratory is designed to help each individual realize his own potential for growth more fully and to increase his ability to work effectively with others in a variety of situations. By increasing self-insight and by learning how to develop effective team work, individuals can join forces to bring about organizational change and improvement. During the lab, faculty members will work with students in small groups to accomplish these goals. Any student at the University is eligible to participate. Advanced groups will be available for those students who attended the Boone laboratory last year. Students who have not had previous experience with sensitivity training will be assigned to beginner groups. Applications are now available in the Student Activities Center and in the Office of Student Activities, both located in the Iowa Memorial Union. Interested students should complete their applications and submit them by noon on Wednesday, October 4, to the Office of Student Activities. A student-faculty selection committee under the chairmanship of Dr. Willis D. Poland will review the applications and determine which students may attend the October lab. Each student will be charged a fee of approximately $20 to help defray transportation, room, board, operational and consultant expenses. About one-half of the total lab expenses are paid from funds allocated by the Student Senate. Any questions concerning this program may be directed to Dr. Augustine or Mrs. Whitney in the Office of Student Activities, telephone 353-5761.
