October 27, 1967 STUDENT ACTIVITIES BULLETIN Page 2 Dr. Chapman came to the U of I in August from Spring Arbor College, Michigan, where he was Dean of Students. Dr. Trumpe was coordinator of student activities and associate professor of psychology at Illinois State University, Normal, Illinois, before coming to Iowa. Along with Dr. Augustine, they will serve on the College of Education faculty with the rank of assistant professor and will direct the work-study of graduate student interns in student personnel work. NEWSWEEK EDITORIAL STAFF AVAILABLE AS SPEAKERS The Office of Student Affairs has recently received information about "Newsweek on Campus", a special service that makes members of Newsweek's editorial staff available for speaking appearances before university and college audiences--in convocations, seminars, conferences, panel discussions, lecture series or similar student and faculty programs. Newsweek makes no charge for this service. If your group would be interested in sponsoring a program of this nature, please contact the Office of Student Activities, located in the IMU, for further information. THE UNIVERSITY ASSOCIATE OF THE BLIND OFFERS SPEAKERS Blindness is not the overwhelming handicap that it is considered to be by many people. Rather, it is one among many individual limitations. Given this definition of limitation, it follows that blindness does not render the university student different from his sighted peers. The University Association of the Blind offers speakers from its group to any campus organization that is interested in learning more about this philosophy. For further information contact Loren Schmitt, 338-0114, or Mary Ellen Fite, 353-2528. NEWLY APPOINTED VICE-PRESIDENT OF THE STUDENT BODY Eric Morris, A4, is the newly appointed Vice-President of the Student Body, and President of the UISAS. From Bettendorf, Iowa, Eric is majoring in psychology. He attended the University of Minnesota from September, 1964, to June of 1965. During that time Eric was active in residence hall work, and served as house president of his dormitory. When he transferred to The University of Iowa, Eric brought this interest in residence hall work with him, and served as president of Quadrangle Hall from spring of 1966 to December, 1966. Eric was instrumental in the development of the Associated Residence Halls organization, and served as president of ARH from December, 1966, to September, 1967. He is now a member of the student-faculty Housing Committee, in addition to his duties with student government. Eric's successor as President of ARH is Miss Francie Hornstein. STATEMENT OF UNIVERSITY POLICY REGARDING SOLICITATIONS In response to several inquiries during the past few weeks, the statement of University policy regarding solicitations is reproduced on the following page. It is the result of extensive consideration by the University Committee on Student Life. The policy was approved last January by President Howard R. Bowen. Questions concerning the interpretation of the policy may be directed to Dr. Roger D. Augustine in the Iowa Memorial Union, who is responsible for the registration of solicitations.
