Student Activities Bulletin University of Iowa Office of Student Affairs Vol. II, No. 3 November 28, 1967 OFFICERS' WORKSHOP SLATED FOR DECEMBER 9 The difficulties of running student activities efficiently and enthusiastically are common headaches to all organizations executive officers. In response to a need expressed by a number of student leaders to talk out various communication and operational problems, the Student Leadership Program has developed a day-long workshop where leaders of different campus groups will have a chance to discuss these mutual problems. The workshop, which is scheduled for Saturday, December 9, in the iowa Memorial Union, has been planned by a seven member committee consisting of Tom Osborn and Roger Augustine, co-chairmen; Henry Feir; Linda Ostheimer; Katie Barclay; Janet Carl; and Christine Dyskow. The planning committee has singled out four major concerns to be discussed in small groups by the organization executives. These areas of concern include understanding the individual's motivation for participating in organizations, productive communication techniques, problem-solving and decision-making in small groups, and building morale and cohesiveness within organizations. The program will also include special sessions where officers, advisers and chairmen will meet with their counterparts to discuss mutual problems and to share ideas for meeting these problems. Effective public relations and programming have been identified as general areas of interest, and will also receive attention at the December workshop. Eligible for participation in the workshop are key officers and chairmen of campus clubs, governing bodies, residence hall associations and house organizations. They may attend upon nomination by their respective groups. Registration materials will be sent to executive officers on Monday, November 27. All participants will be required to pre-register by 5:00 p.m., Friday, December 1. Those interested may submit registration materials in the Office of Student Activities, located on the ground floor of the Union. A workshop fee of $3.00 per delegate will be charged to cover the cost of lunch and a workshop manual. The workshop is an outgrowth of the Student Leadership Program which also sponsored the Human Relations Laboratories held in October of this year and in December of last year. The programs are financed jointly by the University, Student Senate, and participation fees charged of participants.
