[unreadable] - Student affairs Student Activities Bulletin University of Iowa Office of Student Affairs Vol. III, No. 1 October 4, 1968 NEW SOCIAL REGULATIONS FOR STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS Anyone who has made a comparison between the old and new social regulations has no doubt noticed a substantial difference between the two. It is no longer necessary to register exchanges, afternoon picnics, or serenades, although all other social events must be registered in the Office of Student Activities at least 24 hours in advance, or before financial commitments are made. Student organizations may hold a function wherever they wish, as it is no longer necessary to secure facility approval. Previously, social functions had to be concluded no later than 8:00 p.m. on weeknights, and 12:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Under the provisions in the new Code, social events need not be concluded until one-half hour before the closing hour in women's residence halls (with the exception of visitations, which must conclude by 8:00 p.m. on a weeknight). Although groups are encouraged to invite faculty guests to all social functions that they schedule, chaperones are no longer required for social events. Alcoholic beverages may not be served on campus or in approved housing. If alcoholic beverages are served at a registered social function (not held on the campus or in approved housing), the sponsoring organization must provide adequate supervision to ensure full compliance with all applicable civil laws pertaining to the consumption of alcoholic beverages. The procedures for open houses and visitations are the same as those that were in operation last year, and are thoroughly outlined in the 1968-69 Code of Student Life. DAD'S DAY WEEKEND INCLUDES PROFILE PREVIEWS New this fall to Associated Women Students is the uniform procedure for selection of all committee chairmen and members. Each committee and its chairman will be chosen by application and interview at the beginning of either the fall or spring semester. It is hoped that concentrating AWS publicity at these two times during the year will attract the interest and active participation of more of its members, the undergraduate women of the University. The twelve AWS committees perform various services for the campus and community and sponsor special events throughout the year. Another innovation this year is the inclusion of Profile Previews as a Dad's Day Weekend event. November 8 is the date of the annual AWS style show at which Miss Perfect Profile will be selected. Tryouts will be conducted for all new women students on October 28, 29, and 30. Applications, available in the housing units and at the Office of Student Affairs, are due October 4. AWS is confident that the Dads will enjoy this program as much as the viewers and participants have in the past.
