October 4, 1968 STUDENT ACTIVITIES BULLETIN Page 3 HUMAN RELATIONS LABORATORIES BEING PLANNED The Student Leadership Program's Human Relations Laboratory is again being planned. Applications for the four-day off-campus retreat scheduled for October 24-27 at the 4-H campground near Madrid, Iowa, are available in the Office of Student Activities, located on the ground floor of the Union. They are due at 5 p.m. Tuesday, October 8, 1968. Any student, graduate or undergraduate, is eligible to attend. The applications are not limited to the off-campus lab, but will allow students to apply for a number of on-campus labs, the first of which is planned for Early November. The Madrid lab will cost each participant a room and board fee of $20.00. This fee may be paid in full during registration for the lab or may be billed in part on each participant's monthly University bill. The program is designed around small group settings, called T-(training) groups through which the individual may develop increased self-awareness and interpersonal effectiveness. The October lab will be the fourth off-campus lab conducted by the University. The first was held in December, 1966, at Boone. Madrid's 4-H campground was the site of two more retreats--one held each semester of last year. Participation has grown from the original 40 students and six faculty members who attended the Boone lab to the nearly 100 students and 10 faculty members involved in each of last year's retreats. Openings for student participants have been set at 80 for the off-campus lab, although other openings will be available for the on-campus programs. Reactions of past participants in the program have been favorable, which is underscored by the high percentage of students who have indicated a desire to attend a second or third lab. The original sensitivity training (another name for the T-group experience) idea originated at the National Training Laboratories in Bethel, Maine, in the late 1940's. Since that time the program has expanded on a national scale and has become popular with many private groups, colleges and Universities. "DEBATE ON DRUGS" October 15, 1968 at 7:00 p.m. Co-sponsored by Currier-Carrie Stanley Halls; South Dining Room - Currier Hall. No admission will be charged and the program is open to all University students. The debaters are professional Varsity Debaters. Questions and comments from the floor will be entertained.
