October 4, 1968 STUDENT ACTIVITIES BULLETIN Page 5 NEW UNIVERSITY MASTER CALENDAR This year for the first time in many years the University will have the advantage of a University Master Calendar which will contain a complete listing of all major University events and many minor ones. This calendar will be prepared and displayed in the Office of Space Assignment and Utilization, 1 University Hall. In addition to the official calendar, the Student Activities Board will maintain a current copy of the Master Calendar in the Student Activities Center, IMU. Also the Office of Space Assignment and Utilization will provide for campus-wide distribution a two-week calendar every week. Copies of this two-week calendar of events will be posted in most University buildings, student residences, and department offices. Any student group wishing to have any of their events posted to this Master Calendar may do so by filling out a "Student Organization Request for Posting to Master Calendar" form as described below, even if the event does not fall within the guidelines listed below. Student Group Calendar Requests The Student Activities Board which coordinates all student organizations and activities at The University of Iowa is responsible for providing two services for the student body: (1) To insure an integrated program of student activities in order that the student body will receive maximum benefits from these programs; (2) To provide the student organizations and units reliable information regarding the dates of various student activities throughout the year so that the groups may more knowledgeably schedule events. In moving toward these aims the Board has established certain general criteria governing which events must be submitted to the Board for placement on the University Master Calendar. The following criteria are guidelines and do not exclude the Board from reaching out to additional events for which approval would not ordinarily be required: (1) All-University events, i.e., those events which all students and/or faculty-staff are eligible to attend if they so desire; (2) Multi-organizational or multi-unit sponsored events--i.e., events involving the membership of two or more separate organizations or living units, except exchanges; (3) Events taking place in major facilities--i.e., the IMU New Ballroom, IMU Main Lounge, IMU Illinois Room, Macbride Auditorium, new Chemistry Building Auditorium, Room 300 Chemistry Building, Phillips Hall Auditorium, Fieldhouse, Shambaugh Auditorium, Pharmacy Auditorium, or in several rooms simultaneously. As events are planned throughout the year which fit these criteria, please submit a calendar request for them on the "Student Organization Request for Posting to Master Calendar" form which is available at all of the following locations: (1) Office of Space Assignment & Utilization, Room 1--University Hall (2) IMU Scheduling Office (3) Assistant Athletic Director's Office, Athletic Office Building (4) Office of Student Activities--IMU These requests should be made as early as plans allow in order to maximize the currency of the Master Calendar. The requests may be turned in at any of the above locations.
