October 29, 1968 STUDENT ACTIVITIES CENTER Page 3 October 29, 1968 To: Presidents of all student organizations As we begin another academic year, I would like to greet each of you and wish your organizations success in all your endeavors in the months ahead. We in the Office of Student Affairs stand ready to be of assistance to you and hope you will feel free to call upon us at any time. I would like to call your attention to the fact that some modifications have been made in the new Code of Student Life with respect to student organization activity. The social regulations have been revised substantially, as was reported in the October 4 issue of this BULLETIN. Also, student organizations are no longer required to have advisers except for those groups which receive funds from (or have assessments collected by) the University. These and other changes and the rules for organizations in the Code merit your personal study if you have not already familiarized yourself for them. Extra copies of the Code are available in 111 University Hall and in the Office of Student Activities in the Iowa Memorial Union. May I take this opportunity to remind you that the following activities must be registered in advance in the Office of Student Activities. Dr. Augustine and his staff will be glad to consult with you in the planning of your events in addition to working out the details of registration. Please refer to the Code for complete information regarding the registration of the following types of programs: 1. Social events (see Chapter II) 2. Distribution of literature, petitions, etc. and the sponsorship of rallies, parades and similar events (see Chapter V, Article 5) 3. Programs for which admission is charged (see Chapter V, Article 4) 4. Fund raising activities (see Chapter V, Article 3) 5. Programs with speakers from off-campus (see Chapter V, Article 6) 6. Off-campus trips (see Chapter V, Article 9) If you have any questions regarding these or other rules for student organizations, or if you have suggestions or comments, please contact me or a member of the staff of the Office of Student Affairs. Again, best wishes for a successful year! Sincerely yours, [actual signature] M. L. Huit Dean of Students
