BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN COMMUNITY NEEDS AND STUDENT VOLUNTEERS

The Office of Student Activities has completed the first phase of a survey intended to determine the need of community (or affiliated) service agencies for student volunteers. A preliminary report shows the following agencies (or persons) with whom a personal interview has been conducted:

University Medical School
Mercy Hospital
Iowa City Recreation Department
City Manager of Iowa City
Johnson County Health Board
United Community Services of Johnson County
Iowa City School System
Johnson County Social Welfare Department
Hawkeye Area Community Action Program
The Red Cross

Apparently many agencies would welcome the help that might be provided by a University office identified to coordinate information about student volunteer needs and availability. In fact due to the urgent need observed in some instances, any student organizations wishing to consider providing volunteers should contact David Wright in the Office of Student Activities for details, just call 353-5761.
