Student Activities Bulletin University of Iowa Office of Student Affairs Vol. III, No. 3 January 17, 1969 STUDENT ACTIVITIES UNDERWRITING FUND The Student Activities Board has recently established a $4,000 Student Activities Underwriting Fund. Past experience has shown that sufficient funds are not available to support many well developed programs at The University of Iowa. Therefore, the Student Activities Board has set up this underwriting fund to encourage student organizations to initiate programs which in the past may have been stifled due to a lack of capital. The Underwriting Fund guarantees money to an organization for a specific program. If the organization takes a loss on the program, the Underwriting Fund absorbs it, up to the amount guaranteed. If, the organization makes a profit, the Underwriting Fund collects 5% service charge or shares in the profits. Any recognized student organization is eligible to apply for use of this fund. Each request will be evaluated on its individual merits, and the main criteria considered are financial feasibility and service to the student body. Applications for use of the Student Activities Underwriting Fund are available in the Student Senate Office. CONFERENCE ON STUDENT POWER The Lecture Committee and Union Board are co-sponsors for a Symposium on Student Power to be held February 5 and 6 in the Main Lounge of the Iowa Memorial Union. Speakers include Tom Hayden, founding member of Students for a Democratic Society; DeVere Pentony, Dean of Social Science, San Francisco State College; Harry Edwards, organizer of Black Athlete Movement.
