September 10, 1969 STUDENT ACTIVITIES BULLETIN Page 2 including guests of the opposite sex, into their own rooms. There is, however, no longer a general policy for open houses and visitation. A reasonable policy governing open houses and visitation shall be adopted by each fraternity and sorority chapter; by the general council of each residence hall; or by students occupying each approved housing unit not a residence hall, fraternity, or sorority. The policy shall provide: (a) the schedule of hours and days for visitation and open house; (b) rules for the conduct of residents and guests at various types of open houses and visitations; (c) procedures for registering guests; (d) procedures for amending and for providing exception; and, (e) means of enforcement. Open houses and visitations are permissible any day of the week between the hours of 12:00 noon and one-half hour before the closing hours of the women's residences. Each residence hall, fraternity, sorority, and other housing unit shall inform the Office of Student Affairs of its policy. The Office of Student Affairs will acknowledge immediately, in writing, receipt of such policies. The policy of each fraternity, sorority, residence hall and other approved housing unit shall become effective immediately upon receipt by the Office of Student Affairs except where the policy requires the Office of Student Affairs to make special preparation for implementation. FINANCIAL RULES RELAXED Student organizations which do not receive funds from the University (nor have the University collect money for them) may now maintain accounts both with the University and off campus, if they wish. As in the past, any recognized student organization financed in whole or in part by an allocation from student activity fees or through assessments collected by the University is required to utilize the services of the Auditor of Student Organizations in the Business Office. All transactions must be made through this single account. Last year other organizations were permitted to elect to use the services f the University Business Office. However, they were then prohibited from establishing any other accounts off campus. The new rule is intended to provide increased flexibility for these student groups in the handling of their finances. It should be recognized, however, that many advantages are realized from maintaining a single account on campus. Treasurers and other officers become familiar with sound business practices, group members are assured of complete records of all transactions, and the organization's total financial picture is reflected in the fiscal reports prepared by the Auditor. Other useful services include the handling of tickets for events, contracts for various activities and tax remittances on ticket sales. All of these accounting and financial advisory services of the University Business Office are provided without charge to recognized student organizations. The office of the Auditor of Student Organizations is located in 4 Jessup Hall.
