September 10, 1969 STUDENT ACTIVITIES BOARD Page 4 FROM THE DEAN'S DESK Dear Organization President: As we begin a new academic year, may I welcome you back to campus and, in behalf of the Office of Student Affairs, give you and the members of your organization our sincere good wishes for a productive year! In congratulating you upon your position of leadership, we hope that you will share with us the challenge of seeking to achieve the kind of academic climate on campus which will enable each student to develop to the peak of his potential both in and out of the classroom. As the University grows larger and larger, it seems to me that we will have to strive harder and harder to help students establish a meaningful identity within the larger University community. I know we can count upon you to work with us in helping to enhance the educational experiences of students at Iowa. In that connection, may I remind you that the Office of Student Affairs is committed to the serving of students--both collectively and individually--in whatever ways will help best promote their educational growth. As an organization president, you may have problems develop which are related either to the group or individuals in it, and if at any time in such a situation you need to call upon a helping and guiding hand, we sincerely hope that you will feel free to drop into our office to talk in confidence with any one of us. Please know also that we welcome your frank suggestions about how we can serve students in more meaningful and worthwhile ways. I know we will all have the opportunity to become better acquainted with you as the year rolls on. Sincerely yours, [actual signature] M.L.
