September 26, 1969 STUDENT ACTIVITIES BULLETIN Page 4 IOWA MOUNTAINEERS SET CLIMBING RECORDS Members of the Iowa Mountaineers set two climbing records when James Ebert of Iowa City became the youngest person, and Mrs. Gene White of Denver, Colorado became the fourth woman to climb Peru's highest mountain on the group's outing to Peru this summer. The Iowa Mountaineers were organized in 1940 and incorporated in 1943. Its purpose is to promote outdoor recreation associated with mountain and wilderness camping, hiking, exploration, and mountaineering. An annual summer outing is sponsored to a mountain range in the Western United States, Canada, or Alaska, as well as to a foreign country. The Club is managed by a Corporation Council elected annually by the active members. The Council elects the officers and a faculty adviser. A clubhouse is located east of the South Quadrangle. The Club owns and maintains a special truck-bus which is used as needed on weekend and summer outings. The Club annually sponsors sixteen to twenty-two color motion picture adventure film-lectures. The film-lectures are held in Macbride Auditorium. The group will meet for this event at the clubhouse at 2:30 p.m. THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA SCOTTISH HIGHLANDERS The University of Iowa Scottish Highlanders are announcing their fall tryouts to be held in the Iowa Memorial Union Ballroom on Sunday, October 5, 1969, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Auditions are open to all girls on campus who want to play drums, pipes, sing and/or dance.
