October 24, 1969 STUDENT ACTIVITIES BULLETIN Page 5 NEW ORGANIZATIONS ON CAMPUS: Nigeria-Biafra Drive Committee This ad hoc committee is an extension of CIRUNA. Their purpose is well expressed in their name - they intent to raise money for relief purposes in behalf of Nigeria and Biafra. This committee is in the process to trying to arrange a major entertainment attraction for the University as a benefit performance. They are also seeking the participation and co-sponsorship of as many organizations on campus as are willing to lend their support. Recreation Now This group has begun to organize to do something about the present state of recreational opportunities on the campus. They are concerned about the use of student funds used to support a sports building and sports program, but which do not seem to increase the facilities for an expanding student body. This group plans to be active in a political sense and not in a recreational sense...they are not organizing games. Read Karen Good's editorial in The Daily Iowan, Wednesday, October 1. Iowa Hair One need not be very hip to recognize the significance of this name and, thus, the purpose of this group. The name comes from the musical production Hair, and the group plans to function in a theatrical way -- musicals and drama. One of their goals is to produce the musical Hair during the coming year. AN ALL AMERICAN COLLEGE SHOW The producers of THE ALL AMERICAN COLLEGE SHOW are looking for talent for a nationwide television show. The producers are searching for top college entertainers of all types; instrumental and vocal soloists, dancers, comics, etc. EXCEPTION: No hard rock or heavy classical music. Those chosen will be flown to Hollywood to appear on a national television show and have a change to win up to $5,000. There will be auditions at the University of Iowa on October 31. For more details about time and place call the Office of Student Activities, 353-5761. POTPOURRI Mr. Martin Chapman is the newly appointed assistant counselor to fraternities. He will be working in such areas as IFC Scholarship programs, THE ASTERICK, pledge training, and a Fraternity Buyer's Association. The president of CIRUNA is John Eckstien.
