October 24, 1969 STUDENT ACTIVITIES BULLETIN Page 7 WHAT IS UNION BOARD MADE OF? The Student Union Board plans and procedures, and co-sponsors, programs of interest to all segments of the University. The University calendar includes about 600 Union Board events each year. All students, graduate as well as undergraduate, are invited to contribute to University life in one of the following Union Board areas. This is only a small part of their activities, more will be included in the next issues. Art The Art Lending committee arranges for low-cost rental of art objects to University students. Artists at Work sponsors demonstrations of art techniques and processes by graduate students in art, giving amateurs as well as undergraduate art majors opportunities to enhance their art skills. The Local Shows committee selects and displays exhibits emphasizing University talent. The Exhibits committee brings exhibits from other universities and galleries to the Memorial Union. Thieves Market periodically sponsors public sales of University student art works in a variety of media. The Crafts committee serves student and faculty art interest through the extensive operation of the Union Creative Crafts Center. Contemporary Affairs This area gives students opportunities to voice opinions on local and world issues, and to hear opinions of authorities in many fields. Among the committees on contemporary affairs are the following: 1. Lecture Committee 2. College Quiz Bowl 3. Issues and Answers 4. Soapbox Soundoff 5. Symposium Committee Dances and Entertainment The Dance committee sponsors two dances a month. Spectra coordinates events involving all of Union Board. Its biggest program, "The Twelve Days of Christmas," includes about 40 events. The revamped Talent Repertoire committee's main function is to provide a University talent file, mainly of students. It has also introduced a new program, in which auditioning groups perform weekly in the Union Wheel Room. The Coffee-House Circuit brings "unknown" professional talent to the campus
