Student Activities Bulletin University of Iowa Office of Student Affairs PLEASE POST Vol. IV, No. 7 December 10, 1969 A CHRISTMAS DRAMA No Room in the Inn is a musical Christmas drama in two acts written by Barry Kemp, A3, and Steve Lisner, A1, both of Arlington Heights. It is a story about the birth of Christ, told in a modern setting updated with music and characterizations. The idea is not to desecrate favorite myths or Biblical fact, but rather to use the characters and events of that time to create a new story which can be enjoyed by anyone regardless of belief. The characters portrayed reflect a social comment as well as universal emotions prevalent in all people, including humor, pride, desire, ignorance, and honesty. The music is meant to show a variety of tastes and moods, utilizing such styles as rock, ballad, country-western, and conventional hymnal. The cast, made up of University students, is headed by Christopher Fazel, A3, Perry, as Joseph, and Justean Sparks, A2, Oskaloosa, as Mary. Others in the cast are Anita Miller, A3, Chicago, as Mary's mother; Terry Gill, A3, Manchester, as Gabriel; Kathy Lebeda, A3, Grundy Center, as Mrs. Soloman; Joe Feldman, A3, Fairfield, as Bahu; Frank Winslow, A3, Des Moines, as Kosigustus; Al Pearson, G, Boston, as Maonius; and Bob Jirontek, A2, Cedar Rapids, as Lyndonium. The chorus consists of Cheryl Churchill, A3, La Grange, Illinois; Mark Maroney, A2, Oak Park, Illinois; Jeanne Rogers, A3, Vinton; Sarah James, A2, Waukon; and George Karon, A3, Cedar Rapids. The play will run at 8:00 p.m., December 10 and 11 in the New Ballroom, Iowa Memorial Union.
