December 10, 1969 STUDENT ACTIVITIES BULLETIN Page 2 IOWA CITY NEEDS YOU If you have ever thought that you might like to give an hour or two a week to help someone else--Iowa City needs you. In a recent booklet entitled "What Can I Do to Help?", twenty agencies in the Iowa City area have listed a wide variety of opportunities for volunteer workers. If you have an interest in sport or recreation; if you like to work with children; if you want to spend some time reading and talking to an older person--there's a volunteer job that will match your interest. For a company of the booklet "What Can I Do to Help" for for further information about volunteer opportunities in Iowa City, please contact: Mrs. Marcia Whitney Office of Student Activities Iowa Memorial Union 353-5761 Someone will be glad you helped! SANTA CLAUS NEEDS HELP AT THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA HOSPITALS There may be no place like home for the holidays, but for some 500 patients at The University of Iowa Hospitals "home" for this Christmas will be a hospital bed. In past years, civic, fraternals, church groups, and hundreds of individuals from throughout Iowa have contributed to the gift-for-patients program at University Hospitals, making Christmas a happier event for the patients. Donors are urged not to send foods and gift wrapping is unnecessary. Diet restrictions make gifts of food impractical and all gifts are sorted at the Hospitals. Appropriate gifts for patients include knitting materials, billfolds, leather kits, gloves, toilet articles, shawls, books, scarves, hose, fancy handwork, stationery and stamps, and toys. Gifts are needed for both children and adults, but adult patients always outnumber children at the Hospitals. Gifts may be addressed to the Christmas Committee, University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City, Iowa 52240 DRAFT INFORMATION AVAILABLE Contact: Roger Simpson Campus Minister 707 Melrose 338-2187 or 338-2165
