December 10, 1969 STUDENT ACTIVITIES BULLETIN Page 3 "FLYING CLUB" NOW ORGANIZING A Flying Club is now being organized under the supervision of Union Board. The club is open to University students only. Some of the basic information includes the following: 1. There will be eleven airplanes available for use at the Iowa City airport. This constitutes major advantage of arrangement over the club purchasing its own plane. 2. Those who wish to learn to fly will pay $50.00 down payment which will cover their ground training. They will be able to use Piper 140's for $13.00 an hour. This is a $4.00 discount for club members. 3. Rated pilots will pay $25.00 down payment and get a $3.00 to $4.00 per hour discount and can use any available plane. 4. There will also be "social memberships" offered at an as yet undetermined fee for those who wish to more closely inspect flying and see if they want to learn to fly. For further information call Pat Olson at 353-3116 or Dick Lane at 351-6125. FEMALE BILLIARD PLAYERS WANTED Union Board is looking for girls who would be interested in competing at the Association of College Unions regional games tournament in billiards! It will be held in mid-February at Iowa State University in Ames. You need not be a good billiards player. All that is necessary is a desire to learn and a willingness to put in the time to do so. Mr. Froeshle, games area director, has volunteered to coach anyone interested and has even claimed he can turn the girl-even if she does not presently know how to play - into the Regional Champion! UNION BOARD CHESS ... ..is meeting every Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in the Union. Everyone, accomplished player or beginner is welcome. Starting soon will be a local tournament to determine representatives to the regional tournament at Iowa State University. UNION BOARD BRIDGE ... ..plays duplicate bridge every Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. in the Union. The fees are $0.75 for students and $1.00 for non-students. Master's points are awarded.
