Morris Schwartz, Department of Sociology, Brandels U OF I MODEL UNITED NATIONS More than 250 "delegates" from two- and four-year colleges in five Midwestern states attended the fifth annual Eastern Iowa Model United Nations at The University of Iowa Thursday through Saturday (December 4-6). The program included two major addresses, as well as a series of caucuses, plenary sessions of the Model General Assembly, committee meetings and meetings of the Model Security Council. The students were participating from Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska. The ambassador from Indonesia to the United Nations, Hadji Roeslan Addulgani, gave the keynote address at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Main Lounge of the Iowa Memorial Union. The Model United Nations closed Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at the Delegates' Banquet, also in the Iowa Memorial Union Main Lounge, with an address given by Lord Caradon, permanent representative to the United Nations from the United Kingdom. Topics discussed at the Model United Nations meetings included the Middle East conflict, apartheid, Southern Rhodesia, and chemical and bacteriological warfare. Sponsor of the Model United Nations is the U of I chapter of the Council on International Relations and United Nations Affairs. Susan Miller, an Oelwein senior, is secretary-general of the chapter. MEXICAN RUINS The haunting beauty of Mexico's silent cities will be featured in an exhibition of photographs to be shown December 6-28 at The University of Iowa Museum of Art. Seventy-seven photographs ranging in size up to 40 by 65 inches show the massive ruins of early Mexican and Mayan cities which were primarily religious centers. The exhibition is being circulate by the Smithsonian Institution and will be shown at the University of Iowa Museum through December 28.
