February 4, 1970 STUDENT ACTIVITIES BULLETIN Page 3 ONE STUDENT - ONE VOTE Students are eligible to vote in Iowa City if they fall into the following categories: (1) they are 21 years of age and a citizen of the United States (2) they have lived in Iowa for six months, Johnson County for sixty days, and their precinct for 10 days. (3) they are registered to vote You may register to vote before you have met the local residence requirements, if you will have met them by election day! FOR WOMEN Women's Liberation Front is concerned with social, personal, and political attitudes toward women. Problems involving women range from civil and legal repression to myths of intellectual inferiority and the supposed evil of female sexuality. The Iowa City Women's Liberation Front and Action Studies will sponsor a Conference on Women's Liberation February 6 and 7 in order to provide an opportunity for women to learn the implications of the female liberation movement. All women in the area are invited to attend. The conference will begin with a presentation of "A Radical Analysis of Women's Liberation" by Marlene Dixon. Marlene was an Assistant Professor of Sociology and Human Development at the University of Chicago, and is presently teaching at McGill University in Montreal. This discussion will begin at 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 6 at Shambaugh Auditorium. On Saturday, February 7 workshops will be held for women and men on the following topics: Medical issues and welfare rights Socialization of girls: sex role stereotype and marriage Sex role stereotype: the family and day care Case and class Organizing Women Why be liberated? These discussions will start at 9:00 a.m. at Phillips Hall. AT 10:00-11:30 in the Northwester Room, Iowa Memorial Union will be a workshop for men entitled "Male Chauvenism in the Movement." A panel discussion will be held at 3:00 p.m., Room 100 Phillips Hall Auditorium. The topic will be "The Implications of Women's Liberation." Guest speakers will include Marilyn Salzman Webb, an Associate with the Institute for Policy Studies; Roxanne Dunbar, who has been active in the movement, and has written"No More Fun and Games;" Barbara Bank, an instructor in the sociology department at the University of Missouri, who helped organize the Iowa City Women's LIberation Front.
