THE CHRISTUS HOUSE COMMUNITY Forty-five students, half men and half women, .live in the five buildings of the Christus House Community on the corner of Church and North Dubuque Streets (about six blocks north of Old Capitol). A new Community is formed each year, and membership is open to students from all religious, racial, and cultural backgrounds. The purpose of the Community is to help each student to deepen and expand his understanding of the Christian faith and life, and the day-by-day community living presents a real opportunity for this. Most evenings during supper, students participate in "directed conversation," a brief, informal discussion held while coffee and dessert are served. Each student also participates in a study program involving about an hour and a half each week, and in worship about twice a week. Former University President Howard R. Bowen has said, "Christus House has achieved a uniques community life which is extraordinarily meaningful to the students involved and also to the entire University. It represents one of the answers to the impersonality of the large state university...The activities of Christus House radiate out to the entire community." Any student who is interested in living in the Christus House Community for a year can call or stop in the Christus House office - 338-7868. IOWA TEAM TO COMPETE ON G-E COLLEGE BOWL A team of four University of Iowa students has been selected to compete in the General Electric College Bowl, an NBC program to be televised on March 1. Young scholars from universities and colleges from across the country battle each week for prize money for their institutions. The quiz program is based on quick and accurate recall of facts. Students representing the university on the program will be Louis Katz of Davenport; Tony Stoik of Wheeling, Illinois; David Dolmon of Kankakee, Illinois; and David Miller of Wilmette, Illinois.
