Student Activities Bulletin University of Iowa Office of Student Affairs PLEASE POST Vol. IV, No. 12 March 20, 1970 FREE DRAFT COUNSELING The draft is a topic of discussion heard everywhere on campus, but few people are real experts on the subject. For dependable draft advice, students should contact one of the following Draft Information Centers: Hawkeye Area Draft Information Center 212 Dey Building - 337-9327 This local organization attempts to keep men informed about draft rights. HADIC has eleven well-trained draft counselors: John Burdick Al Cloud Lenny Klif David Prince Nancy Sherod Dan Bray Tibby Cramer Dale McCormick Tim Gardner Todd Eastin Duffy Robinson There is also professional law service available. The office is open from 1:30-3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday, and also from 7:00-9:00 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday. Roger Simpson 707 Melrose - 338-2187 Reverend Simpson tries to give an objective presentation of draft policies and operative procedures. Discussions might include draft plans, religious questions, ethical aspects of the draft, and alternatives to the draft. American Friends Service Committee 311 Lynn - 338-7250 This is a 53 year old national organization based on Quaker philosophy which today is oriented towards peace and humanitarianism. The program of AFSC consists of peace education and draft counseling. It is considered to be one of the best groups for giving objective, complete draft information. All three of these resouces Hawkeye Area Draft Information, Reverend Simpson and American Friends Service Committee are available for group meetings and panel discussions as well as individual counseling.
