May 11, 1970 STUDENT ACTIVITIES BULLETIN Page 2 DOUG COUTO IS NEW PRESIDENT OF ARH Associated Residence Halls is the student organization which plans and implements inter-residence hall policy; sponsors academic, social and cultural activities within the residence halls; and represents views of the 5,000 dormitory residents to the University community and Big Ten and national residence hall conferences. The organization includes the presidents and representatives from each of the University of Iowa residence halls, as well as the executive officers who have been recently elected. Doug Couto, a sophomore from Postville, Iowa, has been elected President. Doug hopes to improve Residence Hall living and to help meet the needs and concerns of the dorm dwellers. Some specific plans are to establish financial independence for dormitory organizations, and to offer special services to students living in the dormitories. He hopes to obtain a contract with a line of sporting equipment that can be used by students or purchased at a reduced rate.
