May 11, 1970 STUDENT ACTIVITIES BULLETIN Page 4 RIENOW II'S EXPERIMENT IN LIVING, 1970-71 Student leaders and advisory staff are planning an experiment in dormitory living in Rienow II for graduate and upperclass students next year. Hopefully, a life-style more suitable to older students will be created by building a community of upperclass students, with a reduced staff of advisors serving as counselors to tutorial, athletic and social programs rather than the accustomed disciplinary roles. The special graduate sections now existing in other dorms will be eliminated. However, any graduate student who desires to remain in the dorm he now occupies may do so. The priorities for applicants for Rienow II will be as follows: 1. Graduate students and students over 21 2. Seniors 3. Juniors 4. Present residents of Rienow II 5. Present residents of other dormitories For information on how to apply for the special upperclass living section, call: Doug Couto - 353-0296. GOOD-BYE CLEANING SERVICE It looks like the friendly maid service will no longer be picking up after the dormitory residents. In an effort to reduce the operating expenses, the University Residence Halls will no longer include room cleaning and provision of linen or other bedclothes in the dorm contracts for next year. A related budget effort is to cease the operation of the Carnival Room, a public cafeteria in Burge Hall. The service will discontinue on May 28. STUDENTS WHO WANT TO VOTE IN THE JUNE 2nd PRIMARIES Students may pick up an absentee ballot beginning May 18 at the office of the County Auditor, Johnson County Courthouse. If presently registered as a non-partisan, a student may still vote in the primary elections by declaring a party at the time of voting. For further information contact the county Auditor or Tom Green, A3. SUMMER FINE ARTS FESTIVAL Art exhibitions, musical presentations ranging from solo recitals to symphony concerts, repertory theater, an opera, a dance concert, and intermedia programs, are among the many cultural presentations being scheduled as part of the University's annual Fine Arts Festival, scheduled this year during the period of June 15 to August 7. Distinguished artists from most of the University's areas of fine arts will collaborate to present this year's Festival.
