THE READER SEZ! SCIENTI-TALES PAGE 25 [Image] John Giunta... I have enclosed 30c for the next two issues of SCIENTI-TALES. (Meaning Vol. 1 No. 1, No. 2) The change of mimeographing should be an improvement over hekto. I am not a favor of the picture stories. The cover was excellent and most of the interior illustrations were good. The best stories were SATAN'S HOLIDAY & THE FIRST SCIENCE-FICTION FAN, SCIENTIPHOTOS is allright but I don't think it deserves half a page. By the way, I don't think it a good policy to call a three page effort a novelette. your, MELVIN O. SCHMIDT (Thanx! for the 2 iss. sub. As you will notice in this iss, there is no picture st. It seems all turned thumbs down on it. As for the term, Novelette, I and my partner have intentions of keeping it as our policy. For, you see, professionally you could not term them so; but in the fan-field I believe you could. Thanx again for the criticism anyway. That is what is wanted. Ed.) Dear John, I have just received the first iss. of [illegible] and except for the artwork, it is very good. The cover was excellent, the best part of the magazine, incidently. The only story that I liked was Thompson's, which was quite good, and strikingly original. The two Taurasi stories were mediocre. So was Satan's Holiday. I did not like the cartoon at all. 12 pgs is far too much for such an item, and I would rather you discontinue cartoons is further iss. Attempt to secure a few departments; obtain some interesting stories; then you will have a very good mag. I am very glad to hear that the future issues will be published via the mimeograph, and also, that the name will be changed. A.W.T. sounds too much like the professional magazines. Following is a suggestion; as the magazine is to be mimeographed, and the name changed, don't you think it will be advisable to begin the next issue as Vol. 1 No. 1? Think it over. Bob Madle (Yep, you're right! and so it is in the contents page. I am sorry that the first issue did not meet with your approval. But I believe this issue will. Take a glance at the line-up coming for the next issue.) COME ON FANS! MAKES THE READERS DEPARTMENT BIGGER THE NEXT ISSUE. WRITE IN WHAT YOU THINK OF THE MAGAZINE. I ALSO WOULD APPRECIATE ANY MATERIAL SENT IN! THANX!
