- 3 - ----------------------------------------------- Note: The previous pages have been condensed from carbons of my April report to the members. I deleted all mention of projects as they will be covered more thoroughly later in this bulletin. The next pages are condensed from the carbons of my May message. Tanner sent all of the material he had assembled for the 00, much of it stenciled, but to date none of it has arrived. Several articles, I understand, were included. They will probably appear in the June issue. --------------------------------------------- The main function of the NATIONAL FANTASY FAN FEDERATION is to assist fans in their enjoyment of their chosen hobby field. The best way to do this is by the setting up of an authoritative Bureau to which all could send their problems and obtain, in a reasonable amount of time, the answers to their questions. The next best way would be to setup a loan library of material by which fans could find the answers themselves. Last year I spent odd moments of several months trying to establish an information service, c entrally located, in one of our large fan centers. The plan, for awhile, looked as if it might succeed. Then the man with the facilities, the ability and the desire was separated from his sources of information by the Gods of War. To date he has not returned. I wish that one of the older fans with volunteer to take on such a task. Possibly several would volunteer to take on various sections of the job. For instance one could cover the field of duplicating, another writings; another art; etc. Are there enough experienced fans willing to do such work for the betterment of fandom ? As the second best (and supplementary to the above Bureau) is the lending library. This I have already started. At the moment it contain six collections of pamphlets on duplicating. Some of these have been given outright to the NFFF by the manufacturers, others have been loaned by fans. Letters are now out to other manufacturers for data that might be of assistance to fans. As they arrive they will be bound together and made available to all members of the NFFF or use, on a loan basis. Anyone desiring to borrow them may do so by writing to me (a list appears elsewhere in this bulletin). If anyone has material of value that they would be willing to donate or loan to this library please send it to me. The position of librarian is also open to some volunteer. We are need of material on writing, indexing, art work, and I wish that someone would donate or loan a copy of the IMAG-INDEX. At the Pacificon: E.E.Evans will be our official representative and he informs us that a meeting has been planned for NFFF members. Details of this meeting will appear at some future date. We sincerely hope that all members, who are able, will attend that FOURTH WORLD SCIENCE FICTION CONVENTION in Los Angeles July 4th through 7th. Memberships can be obtained from NFFF member (and former Director) Walter J Daugherty, 1305 West Ingraham Street. Even if you can’t attend send a dollar for your membership and help boost the Convention. It has been ordered by your President that previous Laureate Award recipients be sent Certificates of Merit similar to those sent this year’s winners. The Certificate is a printed card bearing the statement that it is a “CERTIFICATE OF MERIT, Laureate Award of THE NATIONAL FANTASY FAN FEDERATION, Awarded to ______________ Award for ____________” and it bears the date of issuance and the signatures of the President and Chairman of the Board of Directors. They are sent out by the Sec’y-Treas.
