Page 20 "MARS" 1. Red sands are swept by light and ghostly winds No water trickles 'round the ancient river bends Yet -- crumbling walls and glass, and golden things Are there -- dead palaces of ancient Martian kings. RUINS 2. Here dwelt a race that had never known sorrow; They laughed and played and knew not that the morrow Would bring them pain. They cared not, but for gain! YOUTH AGE 3. Old and wise, forgotten in the rush, Watched in dismay -- to see the idle crush The old ideals, and the blessed gods forget. And hoped and prayed, their world might be saved yet. 4. A golden death - A cold death Came with the hellish plunder That left a wound to make the future wonder. 5. Red sands now drift thru arches gilt with gold. At last a reverent silence each temple does enfold. And wolfish demons peer in and out the doors. While blood of age, dries upon the floors. J ROGERS
